Nigeria, according to the monthly Global Index Analysis conducted by Speedtest, for the month of July, 2017, ranked No. 101 for Mobile Broadband Internet Speed, behind other African countries like Morocco, Cote d'Ivoire and Kenya, while it placed No. 110 for Fixed Broadband Speed.
The mobile broadband data was gathered from 122 countries across the globe, while 133 countries were analysed for fixed broadband.

According to the list, the first five countries with the fastest mobile internet speed in the world are Norway (52.59 Mbps) , Netherlands (46.94 Mbps), Hungary (46.24 Mbps), Singapore (45.99 Mbps) and Malta (44.84 Mbps) While for fixed broadband, Singapore is first with 154.38 Mbps, followed by South Korea (125.69 Mbps), Hong Kong (117.21 Mbps), Iceland (110.52 Mbps) and Romania (91.48 Mbps).
In Africa, Morocco, ranked No. 66, has the fastest mobile internet speed at 17.01 Mbps, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (No. 77., 14.85 Mbps), Kenya (No. 80., 14.49 Mbps), Namibia (No. 94., 11.05 Mbps) and Nigeria (No. 101., 10.11 Mbps) amongst others.
The data also revealed that Nigeria has an upload speed of 4.41 Mbps for mobile internet, while it tops out at a download speed of 8.50 Mbps and an upload speed of 6.51 Mbps for fixed broadband.
Nigeria recently recorded an increase in the number of internet users, according to a report published in July by the NCC, which showed that over 91 million Nigerians now use the internet.
And, although this numbers are huge considering the countries population, there is still a lot of room for improvement in order for Nigeria to compete in the global space when it comes to broadband internet speed.
